Zonta Club of Kowloon has recently launched the 1 AM (First Action Moment) Mobile Apps application during a press conference scheduled on Zonta Rose Day, 8 March 2016.
The 1 AM is a mobile application that can be freely downloaded from Apps store by clicking https://appsto.re/hk/qqXy7.i on iPhone or Android. It is the first Chinese speaking Apps launched worldwide for the prevention of domestic violence amongst women and girls.
The Apps includes multiple functions. Women & girls can key-in contact details of their trusted friends & relatives. Upon danger, SOS with clues of their location can be sent, so that help can come at the first available opportunity. Through GPS, the Apps also advises locations of nearby hospitals and police stations for seeking urgent assistance. Fake calls or loud buzzer can also be set up, to attract attention and to enable women & girls to leave the scene once they sense danger. There is also survival information for victims, including procedures for reporting to police, medical examination, and legal procedures for prosecuting offenders. The Apps has been organized for Zonta Club of Kowloon by the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women. Further assistance can be obtained through calling the ACSVAW Hotline.
Since inauguration, the 1 AM Apps has received excellent coverage in major media, including Radio Hong Kong, Sing Tao, Ming Pao, Wenweipo, and other e-news agencies. Since its launch, the Apps already recorded over 600 downloads for the month of March.
To further promote usage of 1 AM, we are continuing with the next stage of raising awareness of the Apps in local community and amongst youngsters. Already over 16000 emails were sent to youth centers, volunteers, social workers, and NGOs in Hong Kong. We are currently organizing campus promotion of the Apps, including workshops, and leaflets targeted at over 1000 participants. Promotion on e-platforms like Google & Yahoo are organized with keyword search mechanism and banner information. A short video clip introducing the Apps will also be produced for posting on websites and workshop demonstration.
For many years, the World Health Organization has stated that 1 in every 3 women has suffered domestic violence in their lifetime. Through this project, we hope that we can contribute to the prevention of domestic violence, ensure safe dating, and enhance the prosecution and protection of victims.
